Any Chinese home with a television will be filled with “The Sound of Music” later this year under an agreement between News Corp. (the parent entity of 20th Century Fox) and the Chinese government. The Central China Television Network has agreed to broadcast 52 Fox films, including “Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm,” “Grapes of Wrath” and “Patton,” one a week for a year. In return for the movies, Fox will retain six minutes of advertising time during each broadcast. The first broadcast, on Oct. 25, will be “The Sound of Music.” Last month, Paramount Pictures Corp. and MCA Inc. announced plans to sell advertising time to Western companies during their movies shown in Chinese theaters.
