Way down South in Mississippi, where I was born and raised, there are two kinds of Yankees--just plain ol’ Yankees and Damn Yankees.
A plain (not good, mind you, just plain!) ol’ Yankee is one who comes down for a visit and goes back up North. A Damn Yankee is one who comes down and stays!
I pray that David Treadwell (“Chauvinism Still Part of Life in South,” July 22) is a plain ol’ Yankee!
He wrote about prejudices I never in my whole life even heard of! A regular carpetbagger, he is, stirring up trouble like that! It is a good thing that few people in Dixie read the L.A. Times!
P.S. I am proud to be from Dixie--Mississippi!
