Portuguese director Jose Alvaro Morias won the Golden Leopard award Saturday at the 40th International Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland with his first full-length film, “O Bobo.” The film is a love story set against a background of the theater, murder and clandestine arms dealing which took Morias six years to make. Edward Yang from Taiwan won the Silver Leopard (second prize) with “Konbu Finze” (The Terrorists), a tale of social conflict inspired by West German Reinhard Hauff’s Stammheim. Third prize went to Aleksandr Sokourov’s “Odinokij Golos Cheloveka” (Man’s Solitary Voice), a frank account of life in the Soviet Union in the 1920s.
