Iranian Agents Crack Carpet-Smuggling Ring

NICOSIA, Cyprus — Law enforcement agents in Iran have busted a big carpet-smuggling ring and seized 1,696 carpets valued at $28 million, Tehran radio said Saturday.
The carpets were destined for Persian Gulf countries and the United States, West Germany and Britain via the southeastern Iranian port of Chah Bahar, said the radio, monitored in Nicosia.
All 18 members of the gang were arrested by police in Sistan and Baluchistan provinces, it said.
