A 64-year-old Palos Verdes Estates woman died Wednesday after she was struck by a car driven by a suspected drunken driver, Torrance police said.
Wilma Emanuel died at Torrance Memorial Hospital about 5 p.m., nearly an hour after she was hit by a car driven by June Page, 30, of Torrance. Page was backing out of a parking space in front of the Begonia Farm nurseries at 4111 West 242nd St. in Torrance when the car struck Emanuel, who was behind the vehicle, according to the police report.
Police said that Page appeared to be intoxicated. She was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, but the charges were dropped pending a laboratory analysis of her blood-alcohol test, police said.
