Free-agent relief pitcher Dave Righetti says he doesn’t know if he will accept what he terms as a mind-boggling offer from a Japanese baseball team.
“It’s a tough thing to do, to pick up and leave the country, and I’m rather confused,” the New York Times quoted Righetti as saying. “I know it would be a huge adjustment, but I think I can handle it.”
Over the last four seasons, Righetti has saved 138 games for the New York Yankees, including a major league record 46 in 1986.
It has been speculated that the Tokyo Giants have offered Righetti $20 million over three years.
