The top six floors of the 487-room Hyatt Regency in downtown Los Angeles were evacuated Friday afternoon when a couch caught fire in a 19th-floor hallway, fire officials said.
One person was treated at the scene for burns suffered in the blaze, which started around 2:45 p.m. and was extinguished about half an hour later. About 100 guests and workers were evacuated.
Fourteen city fire companies and two helicopters responded to the blaze, which sent dark smoke billowing from the 24-story building at 7th and Flower streets.
Cause of the fire is under investigation, Battalion Chief Jerry Schnitker said.
