Laguna Beach’s Leach Wins Singles Title

Jon Leach of Laguna Beach High School won the Southern Section individual tennis tournament singles title, 7-5, 6-1, over Rob Grant of Corona Saturday at the Fountain Valley Racquet Club.
Leach is the first freshman to win the individual singles title since Jon (Jackie) Douglas of Santa Monica won in 1952. Leach is the son of Dick Leach, the USC tennis coach, and the brother of touring pro Rick Leach, the Southern Section singles champion in 1983 while at Laguna Beach.
In the semifinals, Leach, who was fourth-seeded, defeated top-seeded Bill Behrens of Rolling Hills, 6-3, 6-1.
Brothers Chris and Jeff Belloli of Anaheim Servite defeated defending champions Neel Grover and Stan Sanders of Dana Hills, 7-6, 7-6.
