One way to escape those onerous mortgage payments is, of course, to pay cash for your home. In March, the latest month for which data is available, nearly 7% of Orange County home-buyers paid cash--a smaller percentage than in any of the surrounding counties. The average price was $191,629, higher than the comparable figure in the other counties.
