A 35-year-old man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of grand theft, possession of methamphetamines and assault and battery on a police officer after a disturbance at a shopping center on Culver Drive, authorities said.
According to Lt. Pat Rodgers, witnesses told police that a fight started about 11 a.m. when the suspect, identified as Everette K. Ratcliffe of Westminster, allegedly tried to steal a car cover and a passer-by attempted to stop him. When officers arrived, Rodgers aid, they saw the two men fighting, and then Ratcliffe tried to walk away.
When confronted by police, Ratcliffe tried to grab an officer’s gun, Rodgers said, and it took four officers and two bystanders to subdue him.
No one was injured in the incident, police said.
