A fire that may have started from a leaking automobile fuel tank parked in a garage caused $250,000 in damage to a house and its contents and spread to a house next door late Saturday before firefighters put out the blaze, Brea police and fire spokesmen said.
Brea Fire Department Capt. Paul Bartley said the fire was reported at about 10 p.m. Saturday at 2015 Fallcreek Circle, Brea.
The occupants were out of town, he said. No injuries were reported.
“It looks like it started in the garage area, possibly (from) a fuel leak from a car,” said Bartley, who added that the cause remains under investigation.
When the blaze spread next door, it caused minor roof damage, broke out a window and burned drapes, he said. There was no estimate of the damage to the second home.
