Equalize Wins by 2 1/4 Lengths at Gulfstream

HALLANDALE, Fla. — Heavily favored Equalize outran Posen in midstretch and won the $155,500 Gulfstream Park Budweiser Breeder’s Cup by 2 1/4 lengths Sunday.
Posen held on for second by three-quarters of a length over Nisswa in the 1 1/16 mile grass stakes.
Equalize, ridden by Jose Santos, was timed in at 1:41 and paid $3.20, $2.40 and $2.40. Posen paid $6.20 and $4.40, and Nisswa paid $5.20 to show. The winner’s purse of $93,210 raised Equalize’s career earnings to $1,146,560.
Posen swept by Romantic Tune going to the far turn and Equalize moved to the outside and into second at the quarter pole. Equalize passed Posen at the eighth pole and drew out through the drive. Posen was hard pressed to hold off Nisswa for second.
Equalize, a 7-year-old Florida-bred by Northern Jove, is owned by Alejandro Menditeguy.
