Fire Burns 300 Acres Near Newbury Park

Afire that burned 300 acres of mountainous brush north of Newbury Park was contained early Wednesday after firefighters battled it for 18 hours, the Ventura County Fire Department reported.
The blaze, which started shortly before 1 p.m. Tuesday in Hill Canyon north of Rancho Conejo Road, was contained at 6:45 a.m. Two firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion but there were no major injuries. No structures were threatened by the fire, which burned in an undeveloped area of mostly rugged terrain.
Officials said the cause of the fire was unknown and under investigation.
