$15,000 Reward Offered in Killing

Los Angeles City Councilwoman Joy Picus on Tuesday asked the City Council to offer a $15,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the killers of Jerry Weber, a prominent Jewish official shot to death last week at a bank’s automatic teller machine.
The motion introduced by Picus will be voted on next week.
Weber, 49, of Encino, a official of the Jewish Federation Council of Greater Los Angeles, was shot to death early Aug. 22 while sitting in his car after completing a $40 withdrawal from an ATM at a Wells Fargo Bank near Sepulveda and National boulevards in West Los Angeles.
Police said the shooting was a botched robbery attempt. No money was taken, and the unidentified gunman and an accomplice escaped in a car. Weber’s wife, Sally, who was sitting next to him, was not injured.
A police description of the shooting suspect indicates he is a black male, in his late 20s or early 30s, tall and slender but physically well-built.
