Very High Tides Due Along S.D. Coast

The only weather jinx for this Friday the 13th is a little night and morning low clouds, but beachcombers, beware of Saturday the 14th, as tides will reach dizzying heights.
At 9:14 a.m. Saturday the high tide will be 7 feet, said National Weather Service forecaster Dan Atkin. On Monday at 10:25 a.m. the tide will peak at 7.4 feet, he said.
“Tides this high are a little unusual for this time of year,” Atkin said. “But the waves will be pretty low, 2 to 4 feet, and you need good waves on top of the tide to cause any problems.”
The weekend forecast calls for a continuation of night and morning low clouds, but afternoons should be mostly sunny throughout the county, Atkin said. A low-pressure system will also continue to keep temperatures a couple of degrees below normal for this time of year.
Highs at the beaches through Sunday will be in the upper 60s. The ocean temperature is 67 degrees, and the surf is at 2 to 4 feet.
Coastal highs will range from the upper 60s to low 70s. Overnight lows will be in the low 60s, Atkin said.
Inland highs this weekend will be in the upper 70s to low 80s. Inland nights will dip into the low 50s, Atkin said.
Highs in the mountains will be in the mid-70s, and lows will be in the upper 40s.
Desert highs will be near 100, and lows will be in the mid-60s, Atkin said. It will be a couple of degrees warmer on Sunday, he said.
