4 Killed as Car Runs Stop Sign, Is Hit by Van

Four men were killed Monday when the compact car in which they were riding ran a stop sign in Lancaster and was broadsided by a van, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies said.
The names of the victims, said to have been farm workers, were withheld pending notification of relatives,
A fifth man in the car survived the crash. He was identified as Austreberto Martinez, 26, of Lancaster, who was in serious condition at Antelope Valley Hospital Medical Center with broken ribs, a spokeswoman said.
The driver of the van, 47-year-old Roger Morton of California City, was treated for minor injuries at Lancaster Community Hospital and released, a spokeswoman said.
The crash occurred about 10:30 a.m. at 40th Street East and Avenue K, Deputy David Davidson said. The van hit the driver’s door on the car, instantly killing the driver and the three passengers in the back seat, Davidson said.
