Upset by Hinds Leads Saddleback to Tennis Title

Carl Hinds of Saddleback College defeated John Fox, the top-ranked community college singles player in the state, to lead the Gauchos to a 5-1 victory over Santa Barbara Thursday in a match for the Southern California dual team title at College of the Desert in Palm Desert.

The victory marked a single-season record 23rd victory for unbeaten Saddleback. Hinds, ranked eighth in the state, won, 7-6 (7-2), 6-2.

Other Saddleback singles victories were by Steve Saba, Scott Hansen, Eimei Ishida and Scott Clark. No doubles were played because Saddleback clinched the match in singles.
