A 20-year-old Santa Ana woman was killed Tuesday when she was run over by a car that had been rear-ended by a truck.
Maria Del Carmen Duarte Uriarte was pronounced dead at UCI Medical Center in Orange after the 6 a.m. accident at the corner of Main and Stanford streets, police said.
The driver of a brown Monte Carlo had stopped to let Uriarte cross the street but struck the woman after a Chevrolet pickup hit the rear of his car.
“The driver of the truck didn’t see the Monte Carlo stop,” Police Sgt. Roger Scharf said. “The truck swerved to miss the Monte Carlo but rear-ended it, causing it to move forward and hit the pedestrian.”
No citations were issued pending an investigation, Scharf said.
