Deadline Nears for Fire Victims to Apply for Aid

Residents whose homes and possessions were destroyed in the Santa Barbara and Glendale wildfires have less than a week left to apply for disaster aid, relief officials announced.
Federal and state officials said Aug. 29 is the deadline for anyone who suffered uninsured or under-insured losses to apply for low-interest loans, disaster unemployment relief, legal assistance and other programs.
Nearly 550 homes and apartments were damaged or destroyed in late June after arsonists set fires in the cities’ hillsides. Gov. George Deukmejian declared a state of emergency in both areas.
