An Oxnard man who was shot in the abdomen in a drive-by attack drove himself to the hospital for medical treatment, police said Sunday.
Jose Luis Ruiz, 34, was standing near his home in the 4400 block of Cypress Road about 5 p.m. Saturday when a compact car drove up to him and a gunman fired several shots, said Sgt. Fred Berry of the Oxnard Police Department. Police had no further information about the shooting, he said.
Ruiz drove himself to Ventura County Medical Center, where he was hospitalized. He was reported in serious but stable condition Sunday after undergoing surgery, a nursing supervisor said.
Berry said police are looking for the driver of small gray or brown Honda who may have been responsible for the shooting.
