Sheriff’s deputies will set up a sobriety checkpoint tonight at an undisclosed location in Mission Viejo.
On Saturday night, deputies will set up a checkpoint in Laguna Niguel.
Both stops will operate between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m.
“We stay busy most of the night, but we tend to see a lot of people right at 10 p.m., mostly coming home from malls,” said Lt. George Johnson. “Then there’s a second rush of people coming from the bars at around 1:30 a.m.”
Over the holidays, the department has scheduled eight sobriety checkpoints in four South County cities--Mission Viejo, Dana Point, Laguna Niguel and San Juan Capistrano.
At their first checkpoint in early December, deputies stopped about 1,400 vehicles and arrested nine people on suspicion of drunk driving.
