More than 70,000 people are expected to attend a two-day festival in Oxnard this weekend in celebration of the county’s strawberry crop.
Organizers of the California Strawberry Festival said last year’s event at the Channel Islands Harbor drew 70,000 so they changed the location of this year’s event to accommodate a larger crowd.
The festival is scheduled Saturday and Sunday at Strawberry Meadows at College Park, adjacent to Oxnard College.
The event begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $4 for adults and $2 for children and seniors.
Featured will be food booths, contests, crafts and entertainment, much of which will have a strawberry theme, such as the strawberry tart-tossing contest, a strawberry blonde competition and a strawberry shortcake-eating contest.
Other food available at the festival will include strawberry pancakes, strawberry pizza and strawberry kabobs.
Entertainment will include concerts by The Convertibles, The Guess Who, Tower of Power and Blood, Sweat and Tears.
Activities for children are scheduled both days, organizers said.
