Fred Hibberd Jr.’s 40-foot Solution was second overall at 101 miles, and Japanese entry Tak, a J-44 skippered by Takashi Takamura, led the IMS-B class at 99 miles but reported 10 knots of wind.
Eleven smaller boats started off Point Fermin Thursday, to be followed by the remaining entries at 1 p.m. today.
