Durning’s About-Face: Tony-winning actor Charles Durning, currently seen on television in CBS’ “Evening Shade,” will return to the stage next month to play a role he originated on TV. He’ll star with Tyne Daly in the Long Beach Civic Light Opera production of “Ballroom,” playing the role he created in the 1975 television special “Queen of the Stardust Ballroom.” The musical, which opened on Broadway in 1978, will run Feb. 27-March 15 at the Terrace Theater. The Long Beach production marks the West Coast premiere for the musical, which will be substantially revised for this outing.
