Los Angeles County officials on Monday announced a recycling program aimed at kindergarten through sixth-grade students who will be shown a videotape and given comic books and activities booklets.
The $30,000 program is funded primarily by private donations, although the county has contributed $7,000. MCA cartoon character Woody Woodpecker is the county’s recycling mascot, and is used as a learning tool in the program that will be distributed to about 1,600 public and private elementary schools.
The video--produced by Southern California Gas Co.--and its accompanying activities booklet will be available in English and Spanish.
