BUENA PARK — Police on Monday arrested a 14-year-old girl in connection with a shooting that left a man hospitalized in critical condition.
Anthony Toriz, 31, of Buena Park was shot four times in the face and chest and was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange. He underwent surgery and was in critical but stable condition Monday, Police Sgt. Robert Mills said.
The shooting occurred at 8:30 p.m. Sunday in front of an apartment complex on Stage Road, at Beach Boulevard. Details are sketchy, but police said witnesses reported seeing a group of teen-agers running from the scene.
Officers with the Buena Park and Fullerton police departments, along with Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies and a police dog canvassed the area but found no suspects.
Then, at 2:45 a.m. Monday, the girl was arrested in Fullerton. Mills said he did not know what led to her arrest.
“We don’t know much about the girl other than she was with” the group believed to have been involved in the shooting, Mills said.
The girl is being held in Orange County Juvenile Hall, and police are searching for more suspects.
