Los Feliz : Center Named a Monument
The Los Angeles Cultural Heritage Commission voted last week to declare the pale pink headquarters of the Philosophic Research Society a city monument. The ruling requires City Council approval.
Designed by Los Angeles architect Robert Stacy-Judd, the cluster of Mayan Revival buildings was built between 1935 and 1959 at the request of Manly Palmer Hall, the founder of the mystical religious organization. The complex of buildings at 3910 Los Feliz Blvd. houses a 50,000-volume library, a bookstore, a museum and two lecture halls.
