BEAT IT: AIDS Services Foundation raked in a record $350,000 at a weekend fund-raiser in Laguna Beach. . . . A beaded gown worn by actress Elizabeth Taylor at President Reagan’s inaugural in 1985 was auctioned for $6,500. And an autographed white fedora from pop star Michael Jackson fetched $7,000. . . . Jackson telephoned Monday from Moscow and was ecstatic that his item topped Taylor’s. “Wait till we tell her, she’ll howl,” he told foundation President Ken Jillson.
SPA WATCH: For years, the soothing mineral waters of San Juan Hot Springs lured bathers to the spa off Ortega Highway. Today, after a year’s closure, the deserted facility may get a boost. . . . County supervisors are seeking a concessionaire who might provide cabins, camping areas and perhaps a conference center there. In turn, they are hoping for $18,000-plus a year in rent.
NOVEL JUSTICE: Laguna Niguel author Nancy Taylor Rosenberg used her insider’s knowledge of criminal justice for her first novel, “Mitigating Circumstances.” Now the ex-probation officer is back with “Interest of Justice,” a thriller about an Orange County judge who becomes the target of a killer. . . . Says Rosenberg: “I like to put the whole system on trial: to see what we’re doing right and what we’re doing wrong.”
CAPITOL STEPS: Assemblyman Curt Pringle (R-Garden Grove) has made something of a mark this year in Sacramento and may be rewarded this week with the job of assistant minority leader. . . . And, Capitol sources say, Assembly Republican leader Jim Brulte wants Pringle to succeed him after the 1994 election--although there could be opposition.
