LATIN RAP: At custom car shows, it’s usually the hydraulically pumped autos that do the hip-hop. But hip-hop music will be a big part of today’s event at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum-Sports Arena complex.
Low Rider magazine, which sponsors the affair, has been active in promoting L.A.-based Latino rap, both by showcasing artists at these shows and by releasing a series of albums, through its Thump label, that collects songs by young artists. The sixth volume of the 3-year-old series was just released. Acts featured both on the new album and at today’s car show include MC Blvd., Kozme, Young Bucks, Tommy Gun and Rocky Padilla.
