Guidebook for Outdoor Activities Available

A new guidebook that outlines nature walks and other activities planned this winter in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area is available free of charge from the National Park Service.
The booklet allows visitors to plan activities that are designed specifically for children of various ages, singles, seniors and birders. For instance, the “Babes in the Woods” outing on Sunday invites parents with stroller-age children to join them on a walk around the Upper Franklin Canyon Reservoir. “Learn how to introduce the natural world to your child,” the booklet says.
A more strenuous hike along the Backbone Trail has master trail builder Ron Webster leading a 10-mile trek. The booklet also includes details on “Fungus Forays,” wildflower walks and hikes under the full moon.
To receive a copy of the guidebook, write Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, 30401 Agoura Road, Suite 100, Agoura Hills 91301, or call (818) 597-9192.
