Betty Jane Shattuck; Elementary School Principal

Graveside services are scheduled Friday for Betty Jane Shattuck, a former elementary school principal in Ventura who died Wednesday. She was 70.
Shattuck, born in Whittier, came to Ventura with her family in 1937, said her sister, Colyn Warren of Cerritos.
Shattuck majored in education at Pepperdine University and went on to USC, where she received a master’s degree in education and reading before returning to Ventura to teach.
She worked with the Ventura Unified School District for the next 35 years, eventually serving as principal at three Ventura elementary schools--E.P. Foster, El Camino and Pierpont. She retired in 1986.
She also taught at the Church of Christ Bible school and was active in the Pepperdine alumni association, her sister said.
She is survived by her sister, a son, Clark Shattuck of Ventura, and three nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Ivy Lawn Cemetery. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at the Ventura Church of Christ.
