PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE NFL : Cadigan Might Return to Jets

Dave Cadigan might be a New York Jet after all.

Backup guard David Ware left camp Monday and suddenly Cadigan, starter at left guard last year, became the leading candidate to replace him.

Cadigan’s contract expired after the 1993 season, perhaps the best of his six NFL seasons. But he miscalculated his market value and did not sign with anyone, leaving himself without a team at a time when most are near their $34.6 million salary cap.

Ware informed Jets management Monday morning that “he was not sure he wanted to continue to play football,” General Manager Dick Steinberg said. . . . Indianapolis Colt Coach Ted Marchibroda said linebacker Trev Alberts’ dislocated elbow won’t require surgery. Alberts, the team’s second first-round draft pick, will be in a cast about 10 days. He is expected to be out for four weeks.
