Man Dies, 5 Injured in Wreck

One person was killed and five injured when two vehicles collided at an intersection Tuesday night, authorities said.

The driver of a truck, a 35-year-old man, died at the intersection of Oneida Avenue and Fox Street after he ran a stop sign and smashed into a car containing a family, including a man, woman and three children, at about 8 p.m., said Sgt. Rod Grahek of the Los Angeles Police Department.

The man, who was not identified pending notification of his relatives, was thrown from the truck after it hit a gate, said Grahek.

The three children were injured in the accident, including a 2-month-old girl who was airlifted to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center where she was listed in extremely critical condition, Grahek said. The mother was trapped in the car and had to be rescued by firefighters. She was in critical condition at Northridge Hospital Medical Center, he said.

The father was moderately injured and taken to Pacifica Hospital, along with a 3-year-old boy and a 2-year-old boy, both of whom are expected to survive, he said.
