Police officers and sheriff’s deputies are planning a bike ride next month to raise money for new patrol bicycles and equipment.
The second annual “Bikes for Cops” fund-raising event by the Los Angeles Police Department and county Sheriff’s Department is scheduled for June 10 in Marina del Rey. For a $20 entrance fee, adults and children can ride along the ocean with bicycle-patrol officers, watch a “bike rodeo” to teach children bicycle safety, and eat complimentary food. Families with youngsters under age 12 can qualify for a family admission fee of $35.
Last year, the event raised almost $15,000 and enabled the LAPD Pacific Division and the sheriff’s Marina del Rey station each to buy five bicycles and equipment, event organizers said.
Applications and mail-in registration forms can be obtained at the Marina International Hotel, the LAPD Pacific Division and the Marina del Rey sheriff’s station. On June 10, participants can register starting at 8 a.m. in the Marina International Hotel parking lot, 4200 Admiralty Way, Marina del Rey.
