2 Boys Killed by Father, Police Say

Two young boys were killed and their father was critically wounded Sunday in what authorities termed a murder-suicide attempt on a rocky, sparsely traveled section of beach near Point Fermin in San Pedro.
Police said Bobby Blahnik shot his two sons, ages 5 and 7, shortly before 4:50 p.m.
One boy was pronounced dead at the scene. Blahnik and the other boy were flown by helicopter to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where the second youngster died late Sunday, Los Angeles police spokesman Don Cox said.
“I don’t believe it,” said Blahnik’s father, Frank, who said his son had been despondent. “He felt kind of paranoid, like nobody liked him.”
It was unknown whether anyone witnessed the shootings, although some residents reported hearing what sounded like firecrackers below the 100-foot-high cliff that runs between Point Fermin and White Point.
Gary Holwerda, who lives in a cabin above the spot where the bodies were found, said the beach is almost inaccessible except by pathways a good distance away.
The beach is seldom used, except by residents of the exclusive bluff-top neighborhood above it, he said.
