Homeless Shelters Awarded State Grants

SANTA ANA — Five Orange County homeless shelters were awarded a total of $224,772 in state grants Thursday.
The money was offered by the Department of Housing and Community Development for counseling, job training and substance abuse treatment programs that will help the shelter residents become independent, state officials said.
The agencies that received the grants were Orange Coast Interfaith Shelter in Costa Mesa; the Episcopal Service Alliance, which has several locations; and Mercy House Traditional Living Center in Santa Ana, which was awarded almost $78,000, the largest block grant in Orange County.
The others were Friendship Shelter Inc. in Laguna Beach and Shelter for the Homeless in Westminster.
