CHP Officer Shot During Traffic Stop

SAN DIEGO — A California Highway Patrol officer was shot Tuesday after making a traffic stop on Interstate 15, north of Escondido.
The officer returned fire and wounded a suspect, officials said. Both men were taken to Palomar Medical Center, where their wounds were said not to be life-threatening.
Officials said Tuesday night that they had not determined a motive for the shooting. The identities of the suspect and the officer were not immediately released.
