4 Injured When Car Crashes Into Restaurant

SANTA ANA — A car smashed through the glass front of the El Gallo Giro restaurant Wednesday night, injuring four people, including a 2-year-old.
The car, carrying five men, came to a stop entirely inside the restaurant, just short of the counter, sending glass everywhere.
In addition to the toddler, an employee and two other customers were injured, police said. Dishwasher Jerry Herrera said one of them was a 12-year-old boy whose leg was broken.
The 2-year-old was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, where he is in stable condition. The others were in good condition at Coastal Communities Hospital in Santa Ana.
Police Cpl. Mike Stuhl said the five men had been at the restaurant at 1442 S. Bristol St. earlier and apparently were returning for something at 9 p.m.
Herrera said the driver told him the brakes had failed.
“He was not drunk,” Herrera said.
The five men in the car were not hurt.
