Panorama City : Event to Aid Survivors of Domestic Violence

Panorama Mall will be among dozens of shopping centers nationwide accepting donations of clothing, shoes, diapers and toiletries the day after Christmas for the first Mother’s March benefiting survivors of domestic violence.
All items donated at Panorama Mall on Tuesday will benefit Tamar’s House, one of two domestic violence shelters in the San Fernando Valley.
The Mother’s March is the brainchild of 11-year-old Jessica Meier of Long Beach, who was inspired after writing a report about this fall’s Million Man March.
In November, Jessica told her parents, “I think we should do our own march so people will just stop hurting each other.”
Jessica’s mother, who does publicity for malls, brought the idea to shopping centers in California, Oklahoma, Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Colorado. Within a month, malls in 27 states had agreed to accept donations.
Depending on the place, some malls will permit actual marches against domestic violence too--although Panorama Mall will not.
