When “The Living Sea” makes its Southern California premiere in Los Angeles on March 29, it may arrive as an Academy Award winner.
The film, produced by Greg MacGillivray and Alec Lorimore, was one of five nominated for an Oscar this week in the documentary short subject category. It already has won honors at the Houston International Film & Video Festival and the Chicago International Film Festival.
MacGillivray Freeman Films, based in Laguna Beach, has made 16 IMAX movies; “The Living Sea” is the company’s first to be nominated for an Academy Award. Winners will be announced March 25 in ceremonies at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles.
