IRVINE — Former world junior featherweight champion Kennedy McKinney has pulled out of his fight at the Pond of Anaheim’s pay-per-view card on May 4, according to Forum Boxing’s John Beyrooty.
McKinney reportedly took a more lucrative offer to fight on a show televised by CBS. The card at the Pond, being promoted by Forum Boxing, features World Boxing Organization champion Marco Antonio Barrera (40-0) against Jesse Benavides (40-4-1) for Barrera’s WBO title.
In another world title fight, Mark Johnson of Washington, D.C., faces El Salvador’s Francisco Tejador for the vacant International Boxing Federation flyweight crown. Other matchups on the five-bout card are junior featherweight Junior Jones of Brooklyn against Chicago’s John Lowey, junior featherweight Jesse Magana of Los Angeles against Jose Ayala of Puerto Rico and former world junior lightweight champion Jorge Paez against Jose Sanabria.
On April 29, The Pond’s bimonthly Monday card will be headlined by a 10-round featherweight bout between once-beaten Juan Manuel Marquez and unbeaten Nestor Garza, a stablemate of Barrera’s.
