Workshop on Race Relations Set Thursday

A workshop on race relations Thursday will focus on tensions between Latinos and African Americans, especially those who live in public housing developments.

The session, to be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the historic Dunbar Hotel at 4225 S. Central Ave. in South-Central Los Angeles, is part of the fourth citywide “Days of Dialogue” program, started in the wake of the 1995 O.J. Simpson trial verdict.

The citywide program runs through Monday.

The Dunbar Hotel session will be led by Sharon Blackburn, a project coordinator of the South Central Prevention Coalition.

“I’ve been working at these housing developments for a while, and there is always some confrontation there,” Blackburn said. “It starts with the kids and then it gets bigger, into issues of race. We are going to be teaching people how to deal with these issues, to get them to learn how to communicate.”

To sign up for the Dunbar workshop, call Blackburn at (213) 231-0333 or the hotel at (213) 234-7657. For information on other “Days of Dialogue” sessions, call (213) 485-8324.
