Patrick D. Sapp; Ventura Postal Supervisor

Patrick D. Sapp of Ventura, a former maintenance supervisor for the U.S. Postal Service, died Saturday of a heart attack. He was 76.

Sapp was born Oct. 22, 1920, in Logansport, Ind., and served in the Army for seven years. During World War II, he was stationed at the Panama Canal, guarding the vital shipping line from attack.

After the war, Sapp joined the Postal Service in Indiana, working as a postal carrier. He later accepted a transfer to Southern California.

Outside his job, Sapp was a devoted camper, said daughter Linda Wigton of Ventura. The family vacationed along the Kern River and took elaborate cross-country camping trips, Wigton said.

Sapp is also survived by his wife, Jacqulyn; his son and daughter-in-law Mike and Cheryle Sapp of Santa Maria; son-in-law Burt Wigton; and three grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart Assn. of Ventura County, 1375 Del Norte, Camarillo, CA 93010.
