CHOC Articles Off the Mark

* Elmer Gantry would be proud of the self-righteous tone of your June 1 editorial about Children’s Hospital of Orange County, coming hard on the heels of two breathlessly sensational negative articles.
In this day and age, it is hard to understand how a $100-million corporation with a personnel issue and temporary financial problems made the front page, unless there was malicious intent on your part.
Unfortunately, in your zeal to make the most out of this schoolyard brawl, you have ignored the other 1,248 people who daily save children’s lives in Orange County.
When you speak of affecting morale, please know that your articles have had a more powerful negative impact than anything which came before them. Also, please know that CHOC associates and medical staff will continue restoring children to health long after your articles have faded to dust, because they are totally committed to their mission.
Speaking as a grateful parent of three CHOC patients, I would like to offer some friendly advice. If you would like to get to know something about the real spirit of Children’s Hospital, just visit there. The staff would be more than happy to correct each of your misconceptions.
