For the second time in a month, a South Los Angeles teacher has been arrested on a sex-related charge involving a minor. John-Mark Carter, a math and science teacher at Audubon Middle School in Leimert Park, was charged with child molestation Tuesday for allegedly molesting a 13-year-old female student.
Carter, 47, pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Tuesday on 11 counts of committing lewd acts with a child under the age of 14, Deputy Dist. Atty. Karla Kerlin said. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for June 30.
Kerlin said the Huntington Beach man allegedly molested the eighth-grade student several times in his classroom between Jan. 1 and June 6. He is being held in lieu of $550,000 bail. If convicted, Carter faces a maximum sentence of 28 years in state prison, Kerlin said. On May 18, Rodney Anderson, a teacher at George Washington Preparatory High School was arrested and charged with using children to make sexually explicit videos.
