Spokeswoman for Bonita School District Resigns

The spokeswoman for the Bonita Unified School District has resigned, saying she can no longer do the job because she believes officials have not disclosed information that should be available to the public.
The school board had scheduled a Wednesday vote on whether to renew the contract for Barbara Ward, but she resigned on Tuesday. Ward asked that her $55-an-hour contract, which expires July 1, not be renewed.
In her letter, Ward said the reasons for her resignation included what she called the board’s decision to ignore her advice and not publicly discuss the recent dismissal of Supt. Ron Raja.
The resignation came after board member Robin Carder publicly opposed the renewal of Ward’s contract, saying she had the support of the majority of the board.
But board President Bob Olander II said Ward’s resignation and the move against her was an attack on the public’s right to know.
