ANAHEIM — A three-block section of La Palma Avenue, closed after a drunk driving suspect plowed into a power pole, was expected to reopen this morning, police said.
The thoroughfare was closed in both directions between Olive Street and Anaheim Boulevard after the accident, which occurred about 4:45 p.m.
The driver, Jerry Lee Roark, 54, of Westminster, was eastbound on La Palma Avenue when he left the road, slammed into a traffic sign and then into a wooden utility pole, downing the wires, police said. The man was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, police said, and taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he was reported in critical condition late Sunday.
Electricity customers in the area had a brief outage, police said. Repair work to the pole and lines was expected to be completed by 6 a.m.
