LAX Police Chief Sandoval Goes on Medical Leave

Gilbert Sandoval, chief of the Los Angeles International Airport Police for 10 years, has taken a paid medical leave and is expected to retire early next year.
The 66-year-old chief announced that he is going on leave, turning the department and its 230 police officers over to Capt. John Bangs, who is now acting police chief.
Sandoval, who worked for the Los Angeles Police Department from 1955 to 1977 before retiring as a lieutenant, makes $72,349 a year as chief.
