A memorial service for community activist Carla Bard is set for 1 p.m. Thursday at Ojai Community Church.
Bard, 69, was killed en route to a Planning and Conservation League meeting in San Francisco on Saturday after losing control of her car in a rainstorm near Paso Robles on U.S. Highway 101.
Bard spent nearly five decades as an advocate for social and environmental causes across Ventura County and California.
Most recently, she joined the Environmental Defense Center’s Ventura office as an issues analyst.
She is survived by her husband, Archie Bard of Ojai, sons Gregory Bard, of Santa Rosa, and Thomas Bard, of Rio de Janeiro; daughters Jennifer Lippanovich, of Santa Rosa, and Victoria Fidel, of Santa Maria; and seven grandchildren.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Environmental Defense Center in Ventura.
For information on the memorial service, contact Clausen Mortuary at 646-1451 or the Environmental Defense Center at 643-6147.
