Francy Named Interim Schools Superintendent

Former Assistant Supt. Robert Francy has been appointed interim superintendent of the Newport-Mesa Unified School District.
Francy spent more than 30 years in the Newport-Mesa Unified School District as a teacher, counselor, principal and assistant superintendent.
Tom Jacobson, director of secondary education, said Francy is a logical choice to fill in while the board searches for a replacement for Supt. Mac Bernd, who is leaving to take the top job at the Arlington Independent School District in Texas.
“He has always been sort of a problem solver for the district,” he said.
Francy, who retired from the district last year, returns Dec. 15 for his interim post. Bernd’s last day on the job is Dec. 19.
